HOLY HIVE CIRCLING THE SURFACE

Holy Hive have released their self-titled sophomore album, following an alluring stream of singles that display the group's sonic development. Holy Hive is still very much folk-soul but they've definitively taken their sound further afield. “We put the utmost importance on having lyrics that mean something to us,” Homer explains. “A lot of the songs on the first record were fun, but could be kind of surface. On this record, we wanted to be more personal—we wanted to write more about life.”. We've taken a particular liking to 'Circling The Surface' which would be on the B-side of the record. Sentimental guitar plucks move between major and minor chords, moving candidly between happy and sad, much like life does. The vocals are lusciously paired to the guitar chords and propped by a beautiful harmony. Check out 'Circling The Surface' and the rest of the Holy Hive. -Ellie Rose-Davies
